Instagram has become the leading ground for so much wonderful body positivity-based art, and 21-year-old Cinta Tort Cartró is the latest artist to make waves with her gorgeous and truly empowering work.
On her account @zinteta, Cartró uses rainbow palettes to fill in body "flaws" like stretch marks and period stains. The results highlight the natural variation of the human body, and specifically showcase features that most femme folks are oftentimes told to be ashamed of or "fix":
In an interview with Yahoo! Beauty, Castró shared:
"It all started as a form of expression, but it quickly turned into social commentary of the male-dominated culture we live in.
There are many things happening in my town that I couldn’t be silent on, such as the male microaggression toward the female body. I know there are countries that have it worse than here in Spain, but I couldn’t stay silent."
One of her current series is shared under the hashtag #manchoynomedoyasco, which roughly translates to "I stain myself and I'm not disgusted," is part of a larger wave of art and artists seeking to destigmatize menstruation.
As you might expect, Castró also creates art around the #freethenipple movement:
Overall though, she wants people to embrace the very "flaws" that make every person's body incomparably unique:
"I grew up feeling sometimes out of place. I’m tall and big, so it’s important for me to state in my art that everyone is beautiful and those 'flaws' are not that. They make us unique and special."
