In case you haven't noticed, Queen Elizabeth II has been wearing shades quite a bit lately. One might guess it's because it's summer so sunglasses make sense and her daughter Princess Anne frequently rocks stunna shades so she could've been taking tips from her, but it's actually the total opposite.

According to Buckingham Palace, the Queen underwent eye surgery last month to treat her cataracts, which can impair vision. A palace spokesperson said, "I can confirm that The Queen successfully underwent a short, planned procedure to treat a cataract last month."

The surgery, which is common and considered safe, basically replaces the lens and makes colors appear brighter, which explains the shades. And, by the looks of it, the Queen is on her way to a smooth recovery!

The Queen rarely wears sunglasses in public because she's super considerate and wants people to be able to see her eyes, but since the surgery, she's worn glasses to palace garden parties, the Epsom Derby Festival, and several other royal engagements. But, TBH, she's the queen and can wear whatever she wants even if it's not for health reasons.
