Ever since The Vampire Diaries ended last year, there's been an empty space in the hearts of many brooding-vampire-fans everywhere. But praise be, TVD alum and fedora enthusiast Ian Somerhalder is back at it again with a new vampire show. Apparently eight seasons on a hit CW show wasn’t enough for him. And thank goodness it wasn’t because now he’ll be on TV a lot more.

The show, which is cleverly called V-Wars, will be on Netflix and is based on a book that centers on Dr. Luther Swann, who is played by Somerhalder. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show is about a vampire disease that quickly spreads throughout society and humans are forced to fight against the vampires, which good luck with that. Somerhalder’s character will have to figure out what caused his best friend to turn into an evil murderous vampire and will be forced to find a cure and stop the vampires from taking over before it’s too late. This show already sounds like it’ll be dramatic and suspenseful.

"We could not have dreamed of a better choice than Ian Somerhalder to bring his keen understanding of this genre from his years of starring in The Vampire Diaries to lead the cast of V-Wars as Dr. Luther Swann and to be a creative force on this series, as well as to serve as a director this season,” said David Ozer, the president of production company IDW Entertainment.

There's no release date yet, but Netflix said the show will start out with 10 episodes. And if we’re lucky, maybe Somerhalder will bring on his TVD costars like Paul Wesley for an old-fashioned Salvatore brother showdown.
