This year is the 30th anniversary of Discovery's Shark Week, and because an entire week of programming about sharks just *isn't enough,* the network is experimenting with a special shark-themed episode of Naked and Afraid.

Five former Naked and Afraid contestants will be stranded on an island in the middle of the most shark-infested waters in the world. Naturally, the island doesn't have enough food to sustain them, so they will have to venture out into the water if they want to eat. Yep, they will venture into shark-populated waters, while NAKED, and if that's not the most terrifying thing you've ever heard than IDK what is.

"There are monsters out there," one contestant says in the preview of the episode. "Think bull sharks, tiger sharks, the hammerheads." Another comments that the sharks are "learning fast what our behaviors are, and how that can help them get food."

In the start of the episode, shark expert Tristan Guttridge tells the contestants that there are over 40 species of sharks in the Bahamas, which is where the episode takes place, so that seems like 40 different ways to lose a limb, IMO.

This is going to play out like a typical episode of Naked and Afraid, but the contestants will get fishing equipment. They'll have to battle intense heat (the island is in the Caribbean), thunderstorms, and blood-sucking insects.

The contestants for this special episode are Ky Furneaux, Ryan Holt, Chris Fischer, Steven Lee Hall and Eva Rupert. The two-hour special (yeah, you get a full two hours of terror) will air on July 29 on Discovery.
